South African Singer/songwriter/actress
Camille Bessey is a multi-genre singer-songwriter who uses her voice and guitar to convey beautiful and uplifting melodies through timeless love songs and modern pop hits. With over 10 years of international performance experience, her repertoire includes an extensive collection of original music as well as covers by iconic female artists such as Lana Del Rey, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Rodrigo, and Corinne Bailey Rae. Camille is a storyteller with a relaxed, feminine, and charismatic stage presence that draws people in and holds them with her resonant lyrics and beautiful, often haunting chord progressions. Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, she fell in love with the arts at a very early age and began writing music at 13. She performed on stages from Johannesburg to Cape Town scoring an opportunity to sing at the Durban International Blues Festival when she was just 16. Since moving to Toronto, Camille has performed at numerous venues including Drom Taberna, the Cameron House, Burdock Music Hall, Supermarket, Pamenar, and Mossop’s Social House, to name a few. She has also performed on stages throughout Austin, New York City, and London. Earlier this year she finished a national tour in South Africa and is currently working on a debut album recording songs at High Peak Studios in Toronto and 512 Studios in Austin. Camille’s love for music also includes supporting local artists through monthly curated shows and marketing for independent record labels in Toronto.
